Dundrum Roadshow

Despite the busy Thursday morning hustle of Dundrum shoppers, the CHANGE information stand managed to remain tall, and offer information to those brave enough to divert their attention from their busy shopping schedule and learn how to calculate and reduce their carbon number and in turn play a part in combating climate change.
From our arrival, the Tesco staff were incredibly friendly and obliging suggesting ideas on where we should locate our stand for maximum interest and even joining us in a photo shoot.
We were delighted at the knowledge and interest of the children we spoke to about the campaign. Many were well clued in as they advised their parents on the best ways of saving energy around the house.
Overall we received a positive reception, as ideas and recycling stories and experiences were exchanged. From those we spoke to it appeared that although many people had heard of climate change, they had not yet calculated their own personal carbon number and therefore it was great to be able to direct them to the Carbon Calculator on CHANGE.ie and talk them through how simple it is to work out
Clearwater Roadshow

Pictured at Tesco Clearwater, Finglas, recently for the Government’s Climate Change Awareness Roadshow were (L-R) Odessa Stafford from the Change Campaign, Damian Callaghan, Trading Manager/Energy Champion, Tesco Clearwater, Finglas, and Emma El-Sahn from the Change Campaign
Engaging shoppers on a Friday was definitely a challenge in itself; however, we were thrilled to find out that the people of Clearwater wanted to understand the impact of climate change and how personal actions can reduce it. We managed to attract plenty of attention by giving away fully recycled pencils.
Adults were impressed in finding out that these pencils were once CD cases while children enjoyed something to play with instead of boring shopping. Some controversial topics we encountered included Irelands national impact compared to that of larger more industrialised countries, however, in this case we advised that Irelands per capita emissions are often much higher than such countries despite a lower overall emission count. Other issues that arose over the day included the reality of climate change, support from organisations such as the SEI and other factors that may be heating the earth, such as earths core temperature.
The different views on the issue were great to encounter and despite the various opinions everyone agreed that energy efficiency is a key issue in today’s world. The carbon calculator provided a reliable tool in demonstrating how to quantify personal outputs. As in Dundrum, the Tesco staff provided a great support for us, and our campaign.
