Change Tips
Here’s some great ideas we can all do. Here on Change.ie you’ll find much better ways for us all to save money, get fit and more in 2009, lowering our nation’s carbon number and changing the world in the process.
The energy saving tips you’ll find here are as easy as changing a lightbulb or riding a bike. So have a read. Then have a think – Because who knows? You might to be able to make more than one change.
Purchase energy efficient light bulbs. They can last up to 15 times longer than an ordinary bulb and use 80% less electricity.
Turn lights off when the room is unoccupied / leaving a room.
Replace 10 ordinary bulbs with an energy saving equivalent and save up to €1,000 over the bulbs life time.
Install a light sensor for outdoor lighting – this means it will power on automatically at night and power down during daylight.
Use task lighting for reading or watching TV.

Heating
- Only heat the rooms that are in use and minimise draughts by closing doors or by purchasing a door bottom draft seal.
Electricity
- Always switch off appliances fully when they are not in use. Appliances in standby mode can use up to 20% of the energy required when fully on.
Insulation
- Lagging all hot water pipes will minimise heat loss as will insulating your water tank in the attic or hot water boiler.
In the Kitchen
- Reduce the number of times you use your washing machine and dishwasher by only using them when they are full.
In the bathroom
- A quick and simple way to reduce the amount of energy consumed in the bathroom is to take a shower rather than a bath. Did you know that a typical shower uses only one fifth of the energy of a full bath?

Check tyre pressure monthly -
it is estimated that 25% of vehicles run on tyres with lower than recommended pressure

the faster you go the greater the fuel consumption and the greater the pollution too
Tighten your petrol cap
