- Fáilte Ireland has launched its carbon strategy, Facing the Challenges of Climate Change.
- The Green Hospitality Award (GHA) is an EPA project that assists the hotel and hospitality sector to implement environmental management systems via a subsidised award scheme. To date, over 180 hotels representing nearly 25% of Irelands’ bed-spaces are members, with 88 hotels gaining awards. In 2008, GHA members saved over €3 million in resource efficiencies equating to 4000 tonnes of waste, 187,500 kWh of energy, 500,000 cubic metres of water. The scheme plans to recruit up to 300 members by the end of 2009. (www.ghaward.ie)

The seventh series of the popular television series EcoEye is currently being broadcast on RTÉ each Tuesday at 7pm, repeated the following Monday at 11.40pm. The programme is developed in association with the EPA, who sponsors several items in the series. The most recently available viewing figures (for the sixth series) showed an increase on the previous year once again, with approximately 400,000 people watching each programme.
